A Steampunk Designed Mouse For Your Steampunk Laptop

There seems to be quite a bit of steampunk peripherals popping up these past few days. We have the steampunk inspired laptop, followed by the steampunk inspired audio player, and then the steampunk inspired smartphone, and now we have the steampunk inspired mouse which we think would go great with all the mentioned devices above.

The designer Aaron Ristau has a couple of various designs of the mouse as you can see in the photo above and they're all of the wireless nature. The bad news is that apart from the design there's really nothing too fancy about the mouse and it's basically a Logitech mouse (although we're not sure which model he based it on) underneath it and it will set you back $180, but I guess for steampunk fans and collectors this is a rather unique looking mouse.

If you're interested in placing an order for this mouse just head on down to his website for more information or if you want check out the video below to see the mouse in action.

No New Macs Until OS X Lion Is Released?

As we all know the latest incarnation of the Mac OS X is Lion as revealed at Apple's WWDC this year, and we know that it will be seeing a release some time this year but could it be because of OS X Lion that we will not be seeing refreshes of the Macbook Air line, at least not until the operating system is finalized? Prior to this piece of news there was a lot of speculation floating around that we should be seeing a refresh of the Macbook Air in the next couple of weeks but now it looks like there's a chance that refresh won't be coming until OS X Lion is ready. From a marketing standpoint it makes a lot more sense for Apple to be selling a brand new line of Macbook Airs that came with OS X Lion, making it one of the selling points, rather than releasing a Macbook Air with the promise that they will be able to upgrade to OS X Lion down the line, which may prove to be an inconvenience certain customers will want to avoid, and according to insiders the new Sandy Bridge Macbook Air models equipped with Thunderbolt are all ready to go into production but due to OS X Lion, Apple management is said to be holding the production back.

This apparently applies to other Apple products such as the Thunderbolt-equipped versions of the Mac Mini and LED Cinema Display, along with the next generation iPhone and iPod Touch which are expected to come with iOS 5, which is supposed to see a release in fall. That could explain several things such as why there was no mid-year release of the next generation iPhone and why this year's back-to-school promotion was giving away $100 in Mac App Store credit instead of the traditionally-given iPod.

Let's just hope that the upcoming OS X Lion and iOS 5 will not disappoint those of us who possess the last remaining shreds of patience for Apple's delays.

Acer announced last week in the UK its new Aspire Ethos laptops with a unique features, a detachable trackpad that will work as a multimedia remote. Available in two versions with the 15.6-inch Ethos 5951G and the 18.4-inch Ethos 8951G, these new Laptops from Acer has now also been introduced today officially in North America as well! Both the US and UK version are similar and keep the same basic specifications.

The 15.6-inch Ethos 5951G can be fitted with Intel Core i3 to Core i7 processors up to the Core i7-2630QM, with other features including support for up to 16GB of DDR3 RAM, the NVIDIA GT 555M or the GT 540M, up to 750GB HDD, plus you have a choice of either a Blu-ray drive, Blu-ray burner, or standard DVD burner.

The 18.4-inch Ethos 8951G on the other hand, can also be fitted with Intel Core i3, i5, or i7 processors but up to the Core i7-2820M, plus the same graphics, HDD and amount of RAM as the 5951G.

The ultimate in portable personal entertainment, the new Ethos notebooks feature edge-to-edge frameless displays available in two sizes. The Acer Aspire Ethos AS8951G includes an 18.4-inch full HD widescreen (1920 x 1080) display, while the AS5951G includes a 15.6-inch HD widescreen (1366 x 768) display. Models are equipped with either a Blu-rayTM drive or a DVD optical drive for enjoying movies on the widescreen scratch-resistant Corning® Gorilla® glass display. The experience can be extended to a big screen TV via an HDMI port for the ultimate cinematic experience.

The Ethos 8951G comes with Acer CineSurround with five Dolby®-tuned built-in speakers and Acer Tuba CineBass subwoofer supporting low-frequency effects and vibrant audio for the ultimate movie and music enjoyment. The Aspire Ethos 5951G packs True 5.1-channel surround sound output, two built in stereo speakers and the Acer Tuba CineBass booster, supporting low frequency effects for a totally engaging experience.

Further underscoring its usefulness as a personal theatre center, the new Ethos line features a large detachable touchpad that can be removed and used as a remote control. Consumers can control their music, movies, or a slide show from across the room. It includes LED buttons that launch music and videos, and can be used vertically or horizontally. In addition, the backlit chiclet style keyboard makes it easy to navigate in low light conditions.

With the InstantOn Arcade key, the Aspire Ethos can be fast-booted, allowing consumers to watch movies, play music and view photos at the touch of a button, without waiting for the entire PC to start up.

"The Acer Aspire Ethos line is the notebook of choice for gaming and media enthusiasts," said Steve Smith, Acer's senior business manager, notebooks. "It combines leading technology with a great set of high-end features that make these notebooks more useful and enjoyable for everyday activities. With the remote touchpad, you can change a song or pause a movie from across the room, and InstantOn gives you immediate access to your favorite media."

Depending on configuration, consumers will find either a 2nd Generation Intel® CoreTM i7 Quad-Core or a 2nd Generation Intel Core i5 Dual-Core processor, up to 16GB of memory, and NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 555M graphics with 2GB of dedicated DDR3 VRAM. All this power delivers phenomenal performance and intense video computing power for maximum enjoyment while gaming and watching HD movies.

Designed for grandiose entertainment, the Ethos notebooks are dressed to impress with a svelte "Black Tuxedo Design," which portrays sophistication with an all-black look. The brushed aluminum magnesium alloy cover includes a sophisticated hairline finish, while contrasting glossy and matte surfaces ooze style from every angle.

The integrated PowerSmart long life battery ensures prolonged battery performance over a longer period of time. With conventional batteries, power capacity starts to fade after 300 charge cycles. The new battery with the long cycle life formula can retain 80 percent capacity for over 1,000 charge cycles (about four years of charges), about three times more than when compared to traditional notebook batteries.

Featuring a USB 3.0 port, which works up to 10 times faster than the standard USB 2.0, a 25GB HD movie can be downloaded in just over a minute. The USB 3.0 port will even charge USB devices when asleep, in hibernation mode, or when turned off completely. With the notebook acting as a charging station, consumers can leave behind a plethora of consumer electronic power adapters, such as those used to charge phones, MP3 players and digital cameras.

With hard drive sizes ranging from 500GB to 1.5TB, the notebooks provide ample room for storing a massive multimedia library and action-packed games. The Ethos 8951G provides even greater storage capacity with support for dual hard drives. A firewire port moves videos quickly from a digital camcorder, and a combo USB/eSATA port enables fast data transfer.

Pre-loaded with Acer Clear.fiTM, a cross-platform solution for media enjoyment and sharing with DLNA-compliant devices, customers can easily access, store and enjoy digital media from almost anywhere in an office, home or from the cloud.

An advanced 1.3 megapixel HD webcam provides high pixel density for amazing video image quality at 24 frames per second. Consumers can video chat with friends and family enjoying a superior crystal clear image, or grab superb still pictures in HD.

Lastly, a bio-protection fingerprint reader prevents unauthorized use of the PC.

Panasonic TOUGHBOOK brand hits Android – Android 2.X on a 10.1″ screen

Panasonic's RUGGED series of technology for MEN who like to occasionally GO OUTSIDE is about to include an Android tablet, with the hardware maker showing off a rubber-trimmed, 10.1″ Android tablet complete with high-brightness screen for outdoor viewing, plus “full shift” battery life so it can go a whole day without dying.

Here's what it looks like, and it would appear to be running the mobile 2.X version of Android at the moment. Which is a bit of a shame for a new tablet. Hopefully that's just “placeholder” imagery.

The Android TOUGHBOOK also comes with an “active stylus” much like the HTC Flyer, presumably because its potential owner demographic works in jobs that involve the wearing of safety gloves.

Here's the press release, via CrunchGear:

Panasonic Toughbook to Address Market Void by Delivering Enterprise-Grade Android Tablet

Device to include enterprise-scale security, functionality and durability for government and commercial mobility

SECAUCUS, N.J.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Panasonic Solutions Company, provider of collaboration, information-sharing and decision-support solutions for government and commercial enterprises, today announced its plans to deliver an enterprise-grade Android™ tablet to the market in the fourth quarter of this year. The new Toughbook® tablet will address a current gap by delivering a product designed with security, functionality and real-world reliability in mind. By delivering this purpose-built business solution, the new Toughbook tablet will appeal to a wide variety of users, including mission critical government personnel, highly mobile field forces, SMB’s looking for a competitive edge, security conscious IT managers and bottom-line focused CFOs.

“The vast majority of tablet devices—regardless of the OS—are engineered for consumers and don’t offer appropriate levels of security and durability or the functionality needed for business use. Like all Toughbook products, our Toughbook tablet will be designed and constructed with the mission-critical mobile user in mind.”

“Enterprise customers are very interested in the tablet market, but have been frustrated by the lack of appropriate solutions,” said Rance Poehler, president, Panasonic Solutions Company.

From a functionality standpoint, the Toughbook tablet will avoid the typical glossy screens—found on current tablet offerings—that are all but unreadable in outdoor environments. The Toughbook tablet will include a high brightness, daylight viewable screen so that mobile workers, in markets like field service, home healthcare and public safety, can easily see critical data and operate the device regardless of lighting conditions. The new tablet will also include an active stylus, allowing mobile workers in sales, customer service and mobile point-of-sale environments to capture signatures on the device’s 10.1” XGA multi-touch display.

Enterprise-class mobile computing requires a heightened level of device security that is not currently available in today’s tablet market. To address this need, the new Toughbook tablet is being designed with security embedded at the hardware level.

The Toughbook brand is widely known for its reliability and durability, even in extreme operating environments. The new Toughbook tablet will be no exception, offering durability, and ingress protection consistent with its other fully-rugged devices.

Other features to be offered on the Toughbook tablet include satellite-based GPS, full-shift battery life, professional-grade accessories and optional embedded 3G/4G mobile broadband connectivity.

Combined with mobile broadband connectivity, the Android-based Toughbook tablet will offer quick access to applications and data that could significantly improve a field worker’s ability to make critical decisions that enhance customer service, improve response times and deliver results.

The device is being shown at Panasonic’s InfoComm booth (3829) in Orlando, FL. InfoComm runs through Friday, June 17.

Panasonic Toughbook rugged Android tablet coming in Q4

Panasonic has officially announced what seems to be the world's first rugged Android tablet: the Panasonic Toughbook tablet.

The tablet was "designed with security, functionality and real-world reliability in mind", and will be released sometime in the fourth quarter of the year. It features a 10.1 inch XGA (1024 x 768) "daylight viewable" multi-touch display, an active stylus, GPS, and optional 3G / 4G connectivity.

There's no word on which version of Android the Toughbook tablet will use.

Anyway, according to the Japanese company, the tablet "will appeal to a wide variety of users, including mission critical government personnel, highly mobile field forces, SMB's looking for a competitive edge, security conscious IT managers and bottom-line focused CFOs."

"The vast majority of tablet devices - regardless of the OS - are engineered for consumers and don't offer appropriate levels of security and durability or the functionality needed for business use. Like all Toughbook products, our Toughbook tablet will be designed and constructed with the mission-critical mobile user in mind," declared Rance Poehler, president, Panasonic Solutions Company.

Back in November, we've heard that Panasonic also wanted to launch Android smartphones this year, but it didn't do it - at least not yet. Well, now that we officially have an Android tablet, phones shouldn't be too far away.

You know how slates always look very neat, fancy and fragile like the very slim Apple iPad 2 and the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 for instance? Well, there are already enough of those in the market targeted at normal consumers like you and me, Panasonic has recently announced its plan to unveil the Panasonic Toughbook tablet targeted at delivering enterprise-grade android tablet that is equipped with enterprise-scale security, functionality and durability for government and commercial mobility.

Sure, I mean, you can very download apps for your iOS or Android tablet devices, but that isn't enough for the government and commercial enterprises. The Toughbook will be equipped with purpose-built solutions that will appeal to a wide variety of users including mission critical government personnel.

As for the hardware, on top of a 10.1" display that will be still be visible under the bright sunlight, satellite-based GPS, full-shift battery life and optional 3G/4G connectivity, it will also come with the durability, ruggedness and reliability that will work even under the most extreme environment as boasted by the company's Toughbook brand.

The device is currently being showin at the Panasonic's InfoComm booth in Orlando. Unfortunately though, I don't think when the device that is scheduled to be released in the fourth quarter of this year will ever reach our market.

Acer to Dump Cheap Laptops to Europe

Want a cheap laptop? Consider taking a vacation in Europe as Acer is about to dump 3 million units of its laptops on the European market to clear out its overstock inventory. The company would sell it at a steep discount, but it is still unknown what kind of deals we could get out of this grand sale. What we do know is that Acer wants to sell them quick.

“Inventory becomes older technology and consumers don't get the best (specs available), things need to change for the benefit of the channel and (their) customers,” a representative of Acer stated.

Acer also blames the rise of tablets and the fall of netbook sales on their inventory dilemma. But if you ask me, I would prefer Acer to sell these Acer laptops in developing countries in Africa and Asia, where tablets are considered luxury items. Then again, I am not from Acer and I doubt they would hear this suggestion.

MSI's SteelSeries keyboard-equipped GT780R, GX780 gaming laptops now available

Mobile gamers that need to move around here and there, rejoice! MSI managed to turn a few heads back in April by building a gaming laptop around SteelSeries keyboard with its GX780, and it's now announced that both it and the higher-end GT780R model are available with a list price of $1,550 and $1,750, respectively.

In addition to that multicolor backlit keyboard, both models pack a 17.3-inch 1920 x 1080 display, a Core i7 2630QM processor, a pair of USB 3.0 ports (plus three USB 2.0), 16GB of RAM, and a 1TB hard drive.

So what's the difference between the two? The big one is GeForce GTX 560M graphics with 1.5GB of GDDR5 RAM on the GT780R, compared to a GT555M with 1GB DDR5 of VRAM on the GX780.

Hit up either Amazon or Newegg if you're ready to place an order (both seem to have knocked $100 of MSI's price).

Samsung Chromebook bill of materials costs $322

If you've wondered about the profit that Samsung makes for selling each one of their Chromebooks, you have to wonder no more. According to the folks over at iSuppli, who gave the Samsung 3G Chromebook a tear down, it costs $322 to obtain the parts to make one of these Chrome OS-powered notebooks, while it retails for only $499. That's not a very large profit margin for Samsung, when compared to the XOOM or iPad that costs only $278 and $235 respectively that sell for more than the Chromebook. And we haven't even included the costs involved used to pay for other factors such as workmanship and marketing of the device.

The Chromebook is made from a $86.37 motherboard, a $58 display, a $48.20 battery, and a wireless $42.85 chip. All the parts are soldered onto the board as well, which means this won't be a notebook that you'll be updating on your own.

Do you think that knowing how much it costs to build the Chromebook and how much Samsung makes will help convince consumers to pick up the device? I guess we'll have to see how many units of Chromebooks are shifted in order to see how much Samsung will make.

Panasonic gives its ToughBook some healthy speed bump

Monday, June 13, 2011

If it ain't broke, don't fix it — words Panasonic has clearly taken to heart with the Toughbook 19. It's time for the rugged, 10-inch convertible tablet to get its annual refresh and not much has changed visibly. Instead, the company gave its internals a boost with some Sandy Bridge goodness and slapped a new TransflectivePlus screen in this military-grade machine for computing in direct sunlight. Impressively, the Core i5 found inside is not of the ULV variety, it's a standard voltage 2520m powering this completely sealed, fanless design. Additionally, the Toughbook 19 now comes standard with 4GB of RAM and has a pair of SSD options for added durability. You'll be able to pick one up, and use it as a frisbee, in September starting at $3,349.

Mac OS X Lion gets a “Restart to Safari” browser-only mode Honeypot feature

MacRumors was digging through the latest developer beta of Mac OS X Lion when it found a rather intriguing new option — if you choose “Restart to Safari” on the user lock screen, the computer will reboot into a mode which consists entirely of the web browser. This is actually the new honeypot feature in Lion. If your Mac gets stolen, the idea goes, it'll need to be connected to the internet for you to be able to track it with Find My Mac or perform a remote wipe, so you'll let the thieves browse this guest account to keep them busy without letting them peruse your personal files. Smart idea? Well depends on how smart the thieves are too.

Redsn0w 0.9.8b1 released for Mac, brings tethered jailbreak to iOS 5

Your patience has paid off. The planet's first openly accessible jailbreak is now available for those who've taken the plunge with iOS 5 (beta), and if you just can't go another day without access to Cydia, well… you don't have to. Redsn0w 0.9.8b1 has been released for Mac users, but given that it's a tethered solution, you'll have to plug ‘er back into your machine each time you need to reboot. We'd encourage you to wait for the inevitable untethered alternative, but those who aren't having any of that “listening to your elders” hoopla can hop on down to the source link. And yet the real challenge still continues with the Apple iPad 2.

Panasonic Toughbook CF-19 Tablet PC Refreshed with “Sandy Bridge” CPU

Unlike the previous Toughbook CF-19 version with an ultra-low voltage Intel CPU, the refreshed system includes the standard voltage Intel Core i5-2520M dual core chip with the Intel HD 3000 Series integrated graphics. Although full voltage CPUs produce more heat than their ULV counterpars, Panasonic has managed to design the new Toughbook CF-19 without a cooling fan. The convertible meets MIL-STD-810G ruggedness standard and comes with 4GB of RAM, expandable to 8GB, and a 320GB 7,200rpm hard drive or a 128GB or 256GB solid state drive. Its display still supports both digitizer and touch input and has the old XGA resolution, but now it is offered with TransflectivePlus option. It provides readability under direct sunlight, since it enables 6000-nit brightness. Regarding other improvements, there's a 4G LTE mobile broadband connectivity choice, which will be available later this year. Networking options include Wi-Fi 802.11n, Bluetooth 2.1, optional GPS, and optional Gobi2000 3G mobile broadband. There are also a built-in 2MP webcam and keyboard backlight. The new convertible runs Windows 7 Professional OS and comes standard with a 3-year warranty. The upgraded Panasonic Toughbook CF-19 will hit the market globally in September 2011, with an esitimate base price of $3,349.

Acer Revo RL100 media center arrives at the US

Acer's Revo RL100 media center is now available Stateside, which is a good half year after said box hit the Asian continent. Well, better late than never, no? Touted to be a digital hub, the Revo RL100 is no slouch when it comes to performance as well as versatiliy, where it will be poweed by a 1.3GHz AMD Athlon II K325 processor, hosting a 720GB hard drive, 4GB RAM, a trio of USB 2.0 ports (sorry, no USB 3.0 here to keep it future proof to a certain extent), a multi-memory card reader that ought to handle just about the whole host of memory cards that you can throw at it, Wi-Fi connectivity and Ethernet support. We like the look of this thing – it is diminutively small, measuring a mere 1″ x 11.81″ x 7.09″, so it should sit quietly in the corner of your living room somewhere without being an eyesore. Even if your pad is already super cramped, the overall design of this should be decent enough to blend in without looking like a Goliath. You will be able to choose form a couple of models – one with Blu-ray capability while the other without. Running on Windows 7 Home Premium as the operating system, you can pick up the Acer Revo RL100 for $499.99, but for those who think that a vanilla model is too plain, top up another $70 to bring home the Blu-ray capable model.

HP Pavilion dv6t Review

Sunday, June 12, 2011

Laptop Magazine has reviewed the HP Pavilion dv6t 15.6-inch laptop. Powered by a second-generation Intel Core i5 CPU, the laptop comes with a 6GB of RAM, a 640GB 7,200rpm hard disk drive, and switchable AMD graphics. Next-Gen MacBook Airs In Production

If you're holding off on buying a new iPhone until the iOS 5 comes out, then you might as well save your money before buying a new MackBook Air, too. Reports indicate that the next-generation MackBook Airs are currently in production.

According to the Apple Insider, Concord Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo revealed that Apple has placed orders for the production of about 400,000 Sandy Bridge-based 11.6 and 13.3-inch MacBook Airs for June.

The revamped Airs will likely come with low-voltage Core i5 and Core i7 chips with its Sandy Bridge upgrade along with 3MB and 4MB of Smart Cache and a possible 8GB of internal system memory.

Just late last year Apple had revamped its svelte laptop by slimming it down even more, replacing the hard drive for solid-state storage and introducing a smaller model with an 11.6-inch screen. It also came with an attractive price tag of under $1,000.

It's likely that the new MacBook Airs - which may come out sometime late this year or in 2012 – will debut with Apple's new operating system, the OS X Lion.

Huge, Heavy Retro-Styled Box Juices MacBooks with C-Cells

If you were looking for the most expensive and least ecologically-friendly way to power your MacBook, then you could do a lot worse than pick the MacBook Air External Power from Bird Electron. If your other criterion is to have a device that looks like a 1970s cassette tape recorder, then you really have no choice.

Here are the numbers. The asking price is ¥23,100, or around $290. Then you have to buy enough C-cell batteries (yes, I said C-cells) to fill it. It takes eight of them. Next, you'll need to buy a MagSafe airline adapter, which is another $50.

Then, when your 11-inch MacBook Air has finally exhausted its five-hour battery life, you plug it into this money-sucking behemoth and enjoy mere two extra hours. At least you can head to the corner store and buy up their entire stock of C-cells to keep the thing going. Or, you know, spend the money on a coffee and recharge at a Starbucks.

It gets worse. The box weighs in at a whopping 1,050 grams, or 2.3 pounds, or just about the exact same weight as the 11-inch Air. And that's without batteries. Add in eight c-cells and, according to this chart, you'll add another 520 grams, or 1.1 pounds.

As a backup for disasters, when you can't recharge even an external li-ion battery, this could be worth it. That's a rather rare use-case, though. Still, it looks awesome, and that counts for something, I guess.

MacBook Air External Power

MacBook Air recharged using old school C batteries

If you happen to be a proud owner of the MacBook Air (it doesn't matter which generation it is), then you would know that it already boasts quite a long amount of battery life, but like all things in life, everything must come to an end – eventually. The same applies to battery life in gizmos, which is the curse and bane of all devices even until today. Well, for those who feel that their MacBook Air is about to embark on a long, long trip without any power outlets in sight, might just want to check out what Bird Electron from Japan offers? We are looking at the external charger known as the EP-15V, where it will be able to power your slim notebook using eight LR14 or Type C batteries, the same fat ones that ought to give you another 2 hours of MacBook Air action on-the-go.

Best to use rechargeable batteries with this puppy, otherwise you would be contributing to the landfill problem. Even when your C batteries are exhausted, you can always recharge them when you arrive back home, which means you need not fret about harming the environment further by tossing used batteries away. You will need to use Apple's MagSafe Airline Adapter to connect it to your MacBook Air though, so you have been warned.

Google's Web-Only Chromebook Now Available for Pre-Order

Google announced on Thursday that its web-only laptop, the Chromebook, is now available for pre-order in the United States via Best Buy or Amazon websites.

Google's Chromebook hardware is currently offered by two manufacturers — Samsung and Acer — with two different product designs. Both manufacturers are offering Wi-Fi only and 3G versions of the device.

“Nothing but the web,” Google Chrome's Twitter account wrote Thursday evening, linking followers to the sale page. Chromebook pre-orders ship on June 15.

As a web-only device, the Chromebook fits in perfectly with Google's vision of a cloud-based future. Essentially, the Chromebook takes the netbook and strips it of the components found in most laptop computers. There's no visible operating system outside of Google's Chrome browser (hence the name), which means the interface is entirely web-based. There's also no significant local storage (though it does have a removable SD card slot), which means everything you're using on the device must be stored and accessed remotely from online servers.

Of course, Google's cloud-based vision has you covered there. Want access to your photos? Upload them to Picasa, Google's photo storage site. Hankering for music? Google Music (now in beta) stores all your music on the internet, streaming songs to the device. The same goes for documents (Google Docs), calendars (Google Calendar) and most other things you could think to use on your netbook.

Acer's cutely titled “Cromia” comes with an 11.6-inch HD display, 6-hour battery life, and weighs just under 3 pounds. The Wi-Fi only version costs $380, and the Verizon-carried 3G version comes priced at $450.

Samsung's model comes with a bump up in features, as well as a boost in price. The display is larger by about an inch, and it's a little heavier at 3.1 pounds. But Samsung says its Chromebook gets an added 2.5 more hours of battery life than Acer's slightly cheaper model. Samsung's model will start at $430 for Wi-Fi, and $500 for a 3G version.

Google first debuted the Chromebook at the company's developer-centric event in May, Google I/O.

Panasonic Toughbook 19 updated and upgraded

Those who watched Transformers 2 would have noticed how Optimus Prime received parts from Jetfire after he was resurrected? It is the same old base material so to speak, but with far superior “specifications”. Same goes for the uber tough Panasonic Toughbook 19 convertible tablet that has just received a bunch of upgrades. The updated device will come with a standard voltage processor, and on to the better parts – we are looking at increased RAM and hard drive capacities and a brighter sunlight-viewable screen amongst others.

Using the second generation Intel Core i5-2520M (2.5GHz) standard voltage processor with Intel HD 3000 graphics, the Toughbook 19 will have a 20% faster start up time, not to mention improved CPU and graphics performance. Not only that, this is the first time where a standard voltage CPU and Intel HD 3000 graphics have worked together in the Toughbook 19. Amazingly enough, the Toughbook 19 will still not requre a fan, so it just goes to show the kind of quality that went into its build to work in even the most challenging of environments.

Other hardware improvements include 4GB RAM that can be expanded to double the amount, the ability to run a 32 bit or 64 bit Windows 7 professional operating system, a 320GB 7200rpm hard drive, with the option to throw in a 128GB or 256GB solid state drive (SSD).

Acer Chromebook officially priced

While Google is in legal battle over the “Chromebook” name, it looks like it hasn't stopped the company from getting its devices out. Acer has officially announced the price of the Acer Cromia Chromebook (3G). Folks who want to get their hands on one of these babies will only need to for out $449.99, $50 less than Samsung's own 3G Chromebook offering, the Series 5. For those of you who don't need 3G you can shave $70 off the price tag and get the WiFi only version for $379.99.

The Acer Chromia Chromebook has a 11.6″ (1366 x 768) display, Dual-core Intel Processor, 2GB of RAM, Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 3150, 16GB SSD, 1.3-megapixel HD webcam, HD audio support, WiFi, 3G, 2 USB 2.0 ports, 1 HDMI port, memory card slot, and a battery life of 6 hours. Not too bad at those prices, but we'll just have to see how much the Chrome OS has progressed since the first Cr-48 laptops Google released awhile ago. How many of you will be picking up a Chromebook?
