Thursday Gateway said that it revamped its ID Series and NV Series of notebooks with “stylish designs” and the latest in mobile technology. But the company also said that it managed to cram a 14-inch HD widescreen backlit LED display - with full edge-to-edge glass thank you very much - into a chassis typically used for smaller 13.3-inch models. We're not talking about clown car physics here, but close.
The laptop with the ultra-tight chassis is the Gateway ID47 and arrives in either an “Infinity Blue Liquid” or a “Brushed Platinum” design, depending on your fancy, both of which sport an aluminum cover with a stainless steel laser-engraved logo. There are also three tasty models to choose, ranging from $679.99 to $699.99. All three offer Windows 7 Home Premium, second generation Core i5 and i3 processors, 4 GB of RAM, integrated Intel HD graphics, Dolby Home Theater, HDMI output and more.
“The fashionable look and feel of the new Gateway ID Series is the perfect complement for today's on-the-go savvy computer user,” the company said. “The sculpted edges, elegant blend of finishes and sleek form factor of the ID Series will inspire creativity for digital media creation and enjoyment as well as fluid social networking.”
Gateway's revamped NV Series isn't quite as “snug” as the ID Series, but the 15.6-inch HD widescreen LED-backlit display makes up for size difference offering a cinematic view of your favorite movies, games and websites. This series features either a subtle geometric pattern or the digital wave pattern on the matte chassis lid.
Thursday the company pointed out the new NV57 Series, but the only one currently listed its the NV57H13u which features a dual-core Intel Core i3-2310M @ 2.10 GHz, 4 GB of RAM, a 640 GB HDD and an Intel HD 3000 GPU with 128 MB of dedicated system memory. Gateway also mentioned the NV55 series: nine laptops with processors ranging from the dual-core Intel Pentium P6200 to the dual-core Intel Core i3 to the AMD A8-3500M, all of which range from $449.99 to $629.99.
Gateway also added that the ID Series and NV Series both feature USB 3.0 ports, single-touch backup, quick-use hotkeys for social networking, integrated 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi Certified connectivity, integrated HD 1.3MP webcams and PowerSmart Technology for extra-long battery uptime. The Gateway ID notebooks are available at retailers now in the United States and Canada, but the Gateway NV notebooks are available at retailers now only in the United States.

Lenovo G570 Laptop Review
The Lenovo G570 is a 15-inch laptop that features a glossy lid and a metal palm rest. Measuring 14.8-inch x 9.8-inch x 1.3-inch and weighing 5.2 pounds, the laptop provides a 2.3GHz Intel Core i5-2410M CPU, a 4GB of RAM, a 500GB 5,400-rpm hard disk drive, and an Intel Integrated HD Graphics 3000 GPU. The G570 comes with a glossy and bright 15.6-inch anti-glare widescreen display with a native resolution of 1366 x 768. Here is the verdict:
The Lenovo G570 offers a solid computing experience, but it's not our favorite 15-inch laptop. For $749, you get a comfy typing experience, strong overall performance, and one of the fastest boot times we've seen on a Windows machine. However, the smudge-prone lid is a turn-off, and you don't get USB 3.0. For about the same price, the HP Pavilion dv6t offers a more stylish metal design, discrete graphics, and Beats audio to boot. The Lenovo G570 is worth a look, but you can do better.

HP dv6z Quad Edition arrives
HP has spanking new notebooks from their Pavilion range for you to choose from – where they will be known as the dv6z Quad Edition. Relying on AMD's speedier Llano-based chips that will start from 1.4GHz quad A6-3400M, going up all the way to a 1.9GHz A8-3530MX, these are able to be given a shot in the arm to hit 2.3GHz and 2.6GHz, respectively. With the fusion (pun intended) of Fusion technology, you will get full HD video playback that is as smooth as a baby's bottom – no dropped framerates for sure.
Other hardware specifications include 16GB RAM (now that's a whole lot for sure!), a 1TB hard drive, and a Blu-ray drive. It doesn't matter which model you decide to bring home – all of them will feature Beats audio, 3D-capable HDMI 1.4 video out and a couple of USB 3.0 ports that ought to keep you ahead of the upgrade curve for some time to come.
We might be bold enough to venture and say that the best selling point of the Quad Edition would be its price point – starting from $650 upwards.

HP Pavilion dv6z Quad laptop with AMD Llano innards goes on sale starting at $650
AMD's Llano platform might not satisfy everyone's power-lust when housed in a desktop, but stick one of these all-in-one beauties in a laptop and you're good to go. The new HP Pavilion dv6z Quad notebook — one of 11 new Fusion-powered models from HP — is a case in point, having just arrived at the company's online store.
The base model promises battery life of up to almost six hours, “discrete-class” integrated Radeon graphics with 512MB of video memory, and a 1.4GHz quad-core processor that can be clocked up to 2.3GHz using AMD's Turbo technology.
Also, there's the real benefit of switching to AMD: that base configuration costs just $650, versus a minimum of $999 for the Intel-equipped dv6t. For the money, you'll also get 6GB of DDR3 memory, a 640GB 5400rpm HDD, a 1366 x 768 display (yes, a glossy one), HDMI output, and a pair of USB 3.0 ports in addition to two of the USB 2.0 variety.
We ought to clarify that the sexy steel gray version on the left will cost you $25 extra, but hey, it's totally worth the extra to look slightly different from all the zerglings around.

Toshiba unveils Qosmio F750 3D, first glasses-free 3D laptop
Are you interested in a laptop that will allow you to watch movies or play 3D games without the need for 3D glasses? If you are, Toshiba has recently unveiled the first 3D laptop that they claims does not require the need for special 3D glasses for watching movies or for playing 3D games. The laptop in question is the Qosmio F750, and it is said to go on sale next month.
It will feature a 120Hz, 15.6-inch screen that uses “a lenticular lens sheet to send different images to the left and right eyes.” The effect is said to vary, depending on how close you are to the screen, but is said to have a more pronounced effect than the Nintendo 3DS for example. If you're wondering why that sounds familiar, it's because Toshiba has already used that very same technology in their glasses-free 3D TV – the Regza GL1.
The laptop will be running on an Intel Core i7 processor with NVIDIA GeForce 540M graphics, a 640GB hard drive, Blu-ray XL drive, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth 3.0 + HS.
It also packs 6GB DDR3 worth of RAM, three USB 2.0 ports, one USB 3.0 port along with Harman Kardon stereo speakers and Dolby Advance Audio HDMI-CEC.
It also features a HD webcam, which it uses for eye-tracking, to better optimize the 3D display, which means that you won't be gathering your friends or family around your laptop to watch 3D movies together.
Weighing in at 2.8kg and with dimensions at 37.6mm thick, 380.55mm wide and 254mm deep, we can hardly call it portable or light, but if 3D movies and gaming is what you're going for, this laptop should do the trick.
Sites who have managed to get their hands on the laptop have claimed that the 3D is not very impressive, as slight change in head movement will cause the image to become distorted, although they have noted that this could be due to the fact that the models they receive may not be the final or polished product that Toshiba intends to put out into the market. Price wise we are looking at about 1,300 Euros and should be going on sale next month.

Lounge-Wood laptop stand is a beautiful piece of furniture too
Despite the term laptop, chances are you'll probably be more productive and slightly more comfortable if you were sitting at a desk, or if you had a more stable surface to place your laptop on. Sure there are laptop stands currently available which claim to provide ergonomical features, but are they as beautiful as the Lounge-Wood laptop stand? We think not.
The Lounge-Wood is made out of painted wood which is grown in zero emissions to water and a steel rod goes through the entire design to provide a bit more stability and sturdiness. As you can see from the photos, it can be placed anyway and even comes with a space that you can put your mouse on. There's even additional space below where you can put your phone or a book or a writing pad, whatever you choose. It looks great if you're trying to achieve the minimalist/natural look for your home as it should match those types of designs.
It apparently comes in three colors – wood, beige and black although no mention on pricing, but if you're interested just head on down to Achiportal's website for additional information, but just a heads up, the website is in Italian.

ASUS's WX-Lamborghini wireless mouse is €38, cheaper than actual car
A couple months back we reported on ASUS's Lamborghini VX7 laptop, so how about the wireless WX-Lamborghini mouse to go along with it? The mouse isn't exactly new as it was spotted at the FCC some time last year, but has finally made an appearance and is available for 38 Euros, which roughly converts to $55.
The mouse will be available in either black (as seen in the FCC) or white with black highlights. It will also come in a limited edition yellow, whose garish and bright colors seem to be Lamborghini's signature, not that I would complain if you gave me a hot pink Lamborghini to drive. In terms of design, the mouse has stayed true to the Lamborghini's shape with bold lines and sharp features.
Measuring in at 106.5 x 68 x 36 mm, it comes with 2.4 GHz wireless connectivity with a range up to 10 meters. It also features a 2500 dpi laser sensor, four buttons, and here's the kicker – a scroll wheel that resembles the rims of the Diablo sports car while featuring leather-like side grips. We can't really speak for the comfortability or performance of the mouse, but if you care more about the Lamborghini branding, then we're guessing that this mouse will most probably suit you. However, given its specs, it does sound like it could also be used for gaming as well.

ASUS and teams up with actor Jay Chou on the special edition N43SL notebook
Though it's been quite awhile since the Green Hornet movie was released, but the actor who plays Kato in the movie is still a megastar in the country he's from - Taiwan. And one of the country's biggest electronics manufacturers, Asus, has decided to team up with him to co-design a special edition version of the N43SL notebook.
The special edition Asus N43SL is pretty much just like the regular edition of the notebook - it packs a 2.4GHz Intel Core i4-2410M processor, 4GB of DDR3 RAM, 500GB HDD, NVIDIA GeForce GT540M, 14″ display (1366 x 768), DVD burner, USB 3.0 ports, and HDMI 1.4 video output. It also features an audio set up developed by Asus and Bang & Olufsen.
What sets this notebook apart from the regular N43SL is the addition of motifs from Jay Chou's works, sheet music from the soundtrack of one of the actor's movies “The Secret” and some special start-up and shut-down sounds. Fans of Jay Chou would definitely want to get their hands on this exclusive notebook. It is on sale now in Taiwan for $1,250, though ASUS has mentioned that it won't be releasing this notebook out of Asia.

ASUS NX90 Gets Blinged Out With 40,000 Swarovski Crystals
The ASUS NX90 laptop isn't exactly new. In fact it was released some time last year, but for a laptop that was designed by Bang & Olufsen's David Lewis, it still remains very stylish, not to mention laptop manufacturers will find it hard to introduce a set of speakers in their laptops after the NX90 has set the bar pretty high with Bang & Olufsen technology. However the focus today will not be on the speakers used, but rather the fact that the laptop has been decked out in Swarovski crystals – 40,000 of them to be exact.
The company behind this masterpiece is rather aptly named Crystallize Your Design, and they are a design firm. While putting Swarovski crystals on a laptop is no big deal, the real masterpiece is the fact that it not only took 40,000 Swarovski crystals, but also the details and colors that they paid close attention to in order to recreate the famous Michaelangelo painting, “The Hands of God”. The designers had to make sure that the color of the crystals were as close as possible to the original painting in order to ensure a faithful reproduction.
No word on pricing, although we're not sure if they have plans to sell it. We're guessing if you asked, the asking sum would be a pretty ridiculous figure. After all, 40,000 Swarovski crystals probably do not come cheap.

ASUS launch the Jay Chou Special Edition N-series notebook
Yesterday, the W Hotel in Taipei hosted over 700 members of the media from across the Asian region that was in town to witness the launching of a new line of notebooks from ASUS.
Called the special edition N-series, or the ASUS N-series Jay Chou Special Edition (N43SL) in full, this new machine is endorsed by and also designed by Taiwanese superstar Jay Chou.
Running on Intel's Sandy Bridge processors (i3/i5/i7), the N43SL also comes with up to 8GB of memory, a 14-inch LED backlit display, NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M, and up to 750GB of HDD space.
On the cover, you will find a Chinese porcelain inspired design motif that features all the elements that make Jay tick - Chinese martial arts, music and magic - and on the palm rest area, you'll find a musical score for his song Secret.
Since Jay is one of Taiwan's top entertainers, it's only natural that he would want the N43SL to come with good audio, and it certainly delivers thanks to a huge speaker bar by Bang & Olufsen ICEpower.
The price and specification of the ASUS N-series Jay Chou Special Edition is expected to vary between countries in the region, and we're told that it will be arriving on our shores in the middle of July and will retail for RM2799.

MacBook in short supply, you know what to expect!
We've already seen the MacBook Pro sporting new Sandy Bridge and Thunderbolt, and heard rumblings of a MacBook Air refresh coming soon, and now reports of dwindling supplies of Apple's great white hope have the internet abuzz over a possible MacBook upgrade.
AppleInsider did a little digging earlier today, and found that major online retailers, including Amazon, and at least one brick and mortar store were either running low or completely out of the last of the MacBooks.
A similar fate has befallen stock of the Mac mini, inviting speculation that both machines will likely pop up post-Lion. Have you saved up yet???

Acer Introduces Aspire One Happy 2, Hopes Netbooks Still Trendy
Acer is not giving up on the netbook as it introduces the Aspire One Happy 2 for the U.S. market. The netbook, which comes in bright Skittles-like colors, features dual-core Atom N570 CPU, 250GB hard drive, 1GB of RAM, WiFi, and a 10.1-inch screen.
It is strange to see that Acer is offering a “new” netbook using specs that are so two years ago and these would even be considered awful at that time. Even more strange is that the company is introducing an endangered product for $269. With that price, you could have bought yourself a pre-owned ultraportable notebook (or even the Acer AC700, if you add about $100) and save yourself from further embarrassment as other people sees you owning a netbook, even if it is spanking new.

Acer announces Aspire One Happy 2 netbook
Given that it's not 2008 and all, it's not every week that we tell you about a new Atom-powered-netbook — not that any of the usual suspects seem likely to throw in the towel anytime soon. Acer just announced availability for the Acer Aspire Happy 2, that rippled, Easter Egg-colored number that reared its head back in April.
As expected, it runs on a dual-core Atom N570 CPU — a small upgrade over the N450 the last generation offered. And while it still has the usual 10.1-inch display, 250GB hard drive, and WiFi radio, it oddly steps down to 1GB of RAM from 2GB. Aside from the predictable specs, Acer is clearly trying to make dented laptops happen, in case that wasn't already obvious.
That and pastels. “Banana Cream,” “Blueberry Shake,” “Strawberry Yogurt,” and “Papaya Milk” sound like your tall glass of crushed fruit? This expensive fruit juice with electronic chips is yours for $269.99.
