New MacBook Pro 2011 Has Crash Issues

Users of the new batch of MacBook Pros, which were introduced in the market last February, reported that their new mac-tops have serious crash issues. The computers tend to freeze because their Radeon GPUs is overheated and their CPUs are overloaded.

The new GPU is supposed to take care of graphics if it is too much for the CPU to process, but with two components working they become warmer than usual. Once the MacBook Pro gadget freezes, a hard reboot (and a prayer that your unsaved files can be retrieved) is the only solution.
Representatives of Apple claim it is a mere software problem, which can be fixed with the 10.6.7 update.

Customers Complain of MacBook Pro Glitches

Apple's new MacBook Pros have faster chips and a Thunderbolt port. According toร‚ numerous forum threads on Apple's official discussion boards, the latest fleet of MacBook Pro models is plagued with technical hiccups that have lead to lock-ups and freezes. The issues, which some speculate derive from the graphics card, graphics driver or power management, cause the laptop to completely freeze up when under any kind of stress. Users have complained that when trying to render a clip in iMovie, play a game or use Adobe Flash the CPU temperature rockets and the unit locks up.

Normancies offers aluminum reinforced laptop bag

If you tote around your laptop a whole lot, it pays to invest in a good laptop bag – preferably one which is water resistant as well as reinforced. Normancies is offering their latest aluminum reinforced laptop case that makes up the handle, while offering protection on its sides. Surely this is not Samsonite suitcase class protection, but the double clamshell design allows it to hold up to a 15″ laptop, not to mention all the bits and pieces that accompany it including the plethora of chargers, drives and accessories. As for the removable strap, you might want to run a few tests on it with differing weights just to be on the safe side, in case it removes itself due to being overweight. No idea on pricing as at press time, but since it hails from Finland, it ought to cost a pretty penny.

MSI's GX680 laptop gets GeForce GT 555M graphics, up to 16GB of DDR3

Mobile gaming rigs don't tend to be particularly upgradeable, so it's important to get all the horsepower you can up front. With that in mind, MSI's latest is delivering a little more oomph than its last lap-warmer. It's the GX680 and it's rocking an Intel Core i7 2630QM processor paired with GeForce GT 555M graphics, NVIDIA's latest bid at laptop pixel-pushing supremacy. That card has 1GB of GDDR5 memory onboard, while the system itself can be configured with up to 16GB of DDR3 - rather a lot for a laptop. A 15.6-inch, 1080p display is available, along with dual 750GB HDDs, which can be configured in RAID 0 if you like living dangerously. Blu-ray is also on offer, along with a THX certified Dynaudio sound system that is said to deliver audio "heretofore found only in cinemas." No price yet, but as always with MSI that kind of hyperbole comes for free.

Acer's Iconia A100, A500, A501, and W500 tablets get prices and release dates in the UK

Acer has quite a few tablets headed soon to the UK, and it has now decided to announce their prices and prospective release dates for those interested.

The 7-inch Iconia A100, seen below, will cost £329 and become available sometime in May. This tablet will launch running Android 3.0 Honeycomb, and will be Wi-Fi only at this price. A 3G version will follow about a month after its release, and will cost about £100 more. Now £329 for a Tegra 2 tablet is quite an affordable price, so those of you in the UK should perhaps have your wallets ready in May.

The Acer Iconia A500 gadget, pictured below, is a 10-inch Android Honeycomb tablet that will become available in the UK on April 8. It will retail for £449, Wi-Fi-only. Again, a 3G-enabled version dubbed the Acer Iconia A501 will follow about a month later for £549. The Iconia 500 will also be powered by an Nvidia Tegra 2 dual-core 1 GHz processor, and it will come with 1 GB of RAM and either 16 GB or 32 GB of internal storage. It will weigh 730 g and have a thickness of 13.3 mm. The A500 will have a rear-facing 5 MP camera and a front-facing 2 MP snapper as well. There will also be a microSD card slot to expand that internal memory, HDMI out, Bluetooth, and a 10-hour battery according to Acer.

Retailers such as Amazon, Comet, John Lewis, HMV and Harrods will sell the Acer Iconia A500 (and presumably the A100 as well).

Acer will also launch a Windows 7 tablet, the W500. Like the A500, this is also a 10-incher, but it will be thicker (at 15.95 mm) and heavier (at 970 g) than the Android-powered version. However, its Wi-Fi-only price will be the same: £449. The Acer W500 will also be offered bundled with a keyboard dock for £529, that being considered the optimal setup for this particular tablet apparently. The Acer W500 will also become available in the UK on April 8. A 3G version is expected for this tablet as well, also for £549, and also about a month after its initial release.

Acer sure has some interesting tablet offerings coming soon, especially from a features-for-the-price perspective (at least compared to other recent Android tablets). Let's see how well they will sell.
