Next-Gen MacBook Airs In Production

Sunday, June 12, 2011

If you're holding off on buying a new iPhone until the iOS 5 comes out, then you might as well save your money before buying a new MackBook Air, too. Reports indicate that the next-generation MackBook Airs are currently in production.

According to the Apple Insider, Concord Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo revealed that Apple has placed orders for the production of about 400,000 Sandy Bridge-based 11.6 and 13.3-inch MacBook Airs for June.

The revamped Airs will likely come with low-voltage Core i5 and Core i7 chips with its Sandy Bridge upgrade along with 3MB and 4MB of Smart Cache and a possible 8GB of internal system memory.

Just late last year Apple had revamped its svelte laptop by slimming it down even more, replacing the hard drive for solid-state storage and introducing a smaller model with an 11.6-inch screen. It also came with an attractive price tag of under $1,000.

It's likely that the new MacBook Airs - which may come out sometime late this year or in 2012 – will debut with Apple's new operating system, the OS X Lion.
