ASUS G74SX-A1 gaming laptop gets rated, loves a bit of Battleship
The 1982 Lockheed Sea Shadow may be rusting away in Suisun Bay, but its
Commie-spooking contours haven't been forgotten. They apparently
inspired the design of the Asus G74SX-A1, which just won a HotHardware
recommendation for its cheese-eschewing looks as well as its
performance, efficient cooling and realistic $1749 price tag.
For once, the Core i7-2360QM CPU coupled with a GeForce GTX 560M and generous 12GB dollop of DDR-1333 RAM actually conspired to surpass the manufacturer's 3DMark benchmark claims. It wasn't flawless though: overall computing performance was middling compared to rivals; the speakers were shoddy when it came to producing music rather than explosions; and the 17.3-inch Full HD display was slightly wasted on some games that only ran smoothly with high quality settings at 1280×720. Still, all this naval talk makes us fancy some Silent Hunter 4 — and that should play just fine. Check out source link lurking below for the full review.

MSI X370-206US – First AMD E-450-Powered Laptop in US
Today we've spotted the first laptop in the US with the AMD E-450 processor – the thin-and-light 13.3″ MSI X370-206US.
Another noticeable thing on the E-450 is DDR3 1600MHz support, but it's not likely that MSI uses high-performance 1600MHz memory modules in a notebook which belongs to the ultra-thin category.
Now, back to the laptop itself. Available details are thin, but we do know the MSI X370-206US features a 1366×768 glossy screen, 4GB RAM, and a 500GB 7,200rpm hard drive. It appears to have the same design as the previous X370 series. This particular model comes in white color, but we have learned that there will be a black model with X370-206US SKU and the same specifications.
The X370-206US is priced at $579.99 (Amazon).

Asus to launch 5-6 Intel-powered Ultrabooks in October
Tuesday, August 30, 2011
Asus will launch as many as six Ultrabooks in October, Asus chairman Jonney Shih said on Monday. The notebooks will offer screen sizes between 11.6-inches and 13.3-inches. Intel detailed its plans to introduce a new category of notebooks, which it dubbed “Ultrabooks” in May. The chip maker hopes the new category will dominate 40% of the consumer notebook market by the end of 2012 and says the devices will combine the performance of today's laptops with a tablet-like experience. Earlier reports suggested that mass production of Ultrabooks will begin in September and Intel recently invested $300 million in an effort to speed up the process of creating the devices. The first such device to hit the market is largely expected to be the ASUS UX21. Acer, Asus and Lenovo have all detailed plans to launch sub-$1,000 Ultrabooks during the fourth quarter but Shih said the six from Asus will be priced between $900 and $2,000.
