The new GPU is supposed to take care of graphics if it is too much for the CPU to process, but with two components working they become warmer than usual. Once the MacBook Pro gadget freezes, a hard reboot (and a prayer that your unsaved files can be retrieved) is the only solution.
Representatives of Apple claim it is a mere software problem, which can be fixed with the 10.6.7 update.
