Samsung refreshes Series 9, 5 and 3 laptops, unveils two new Series 5 systems

Samsung refreshes Series 9, 5 and 3 laptops, unveils two new Series 5 systems
We knew Series 9 laptops with Ivy Bridge weren't too far off when Samsung prematurely leaked the news on its own site. Well, if you've been patiently awaiting a refresh, your day has come: the company held a press event in New York City today where it showed off both the 13- and 15-inch models with Intel's third-generation Core processors in tow. Hardware-wise, there aren't many changes to what you saw on the earlier models, though Samsung added Bluetooth 4.0 support and shaved 0.1 inches off the silhouette. Along with the Series 9, Samsung's Series 5 laptops are getting new Ivy Bridge innards. The only changes besides the processor upgrade are Bluetooth 4.0 support and a USB 3.0 socket. And the low-end Series 3 isn't getting overlooked entirely either: the company is upgrading the line to dual-core Sandy Bridge CPUs (previous models ran Pentium units). But that's not all: on top of all those refreshes, the company has two new Series 5 machines. The Series 5 500 starts at $799 and offers a 14-inch 1366 x 768 display, 500GB of storage space and a third-gen Core i5 CPU. The 15.6-inch Series 5 costs $100 more and features a Core i7 Ivy Bridge processor along with a 750GB hard drive. Both models also include NVIDIA GeForce GTM G630 graphics. Sammy says they will be up for order by mid-June. Dana Wollman contributed to this report.

Samsung's New Series 9 Premium Notebooks, Premium Taste!

Thursday, January 12, 2012

Samsung's New Series 9 Premium Notebooks, Premium Taste!
As premium notebooks, the Series 9 come to the market for premium users. What premium users? Users who work at premium position with premium salary and premium taste. Available in 15- and 13-inches models, the new Series 9 are unveiled by Samsung at CES 2012 which is held in Vegas until Friday 13, 2012. So you still have a chance to experience this notebook instead of looking at the pictures here.

The design and the look is really great, I have no question about that. It's stylish, slim, and elegant, I love it more than anything in the market. Regarding technology, the new Series 9 is powered by a 2nd generation Intel Core i5/i7 processor, 4GB/8GB memory, and 128GB/256GB SSD. It boots in just 9.8 seconds, and wake-up in just 1.4-second. But how about the battery life? is it long enough? If 10-hours is good for you, than you'll love it! And one think that make me really appreciate it, is the auto-sensing screen and backlit keyboad which adjusts automatically depending on the lighting situation.

Samsung unveils redesigned Series 9 laptops, comes with 13- and 15-inch displays

Samsung unveils redesigned Series 9 laptops, comes with 13- and 15-inch displays
The Samsung Series 9 debuted at an odd time, before “Ultrabook” was a buzz word, and when a 2.8-pound laptop was novel enough to warrant a $1,649 price tag. A year later, it returns at an even more pivotal moment: Ultrabooks are cropping up by the dozens, and while their specs are similar to what the original Series 9 had to offer, they cost hundreds less. So with that as the backdrop, Samsung just announced a pair of slimmed-down, redesigned Series 9 laptops: a 13-inch remake, priced at $1,399 and up, and a new 15-inch form number that will cost $1,499-plus when the two go on sale next month.

Though consumers are likely to draw comparisons between that 2.5-pound 13-incher and the umpteen other ultraportables hitting the market, Samsung isn't positioning the Series 9 laptops as Ultrabooks, but rather, premium, top-tier machines. Still, for something that's not an Ultrabook, the brothers Series 9 certainly look the part: both pack Core i5 processors, 4GB of RAM, 128GB SSDs, six-hour batteries and backlit keyboards — Ultrabook-like specs if ever we've heard them. Even the 15-inch model is missing an optical drive, and isn't much larger than the last-gen Series 9.

What separate these sexy books from your garden-variety $900 box is a solid unibody aluminum design and a heartbreakingly beautiful display: a 1600 x 900 panel with a matte finish and 400 nits of brightness. But is that worth shelling out an extra few grand? We'll know when the final product arrives.
