LaptopMag has reviewed the Sony VAIO E Series 11 (SVE11113FXB) ultra-portable laptop. Designed for those who are always on-the-go, the laptop is powered by a 1.70 GHz AMD E2-1800 dual-core processor and an AMD Radeon HD 7340M graphics. Measuring 11.4 x 8 x 0.9-1.3 inches and weighing 3.2 pounds, the laptop also offers a 4GB of RAM and a 500GB hard disk drive. Here is the verdict:
Those who like the idea of owning a laptop that's as portable as a netbook but offers more graphics power will find the VAIO E Series 11 to be an attractive choice. Of course, a sub-$500 15-inch notebook is the way to go if performance is a priority. But if you want a cheap secondary PC for travel or you're heading off to school this low-cost VAIO is certainly worth a look. It's attractive, offers good sound, and comes loaded with useful software.

One thing we haven't seen too much of from the ongoing Ivy Bridge onslaught, is rugged notebooks. Sure, there was that Durabook from last week, but not much else - and we all know the big name in indestructible laptops, is Panasonic's Toughbook line. Luckily, for those of you with jobs or hobbies that tend to involve dust storms and precipitous drops, the CF-19 is on the way with a 3.3GHz Core i5 under its 10.1-inch hood. The €2,950 (roughly, $3,727), convertible notebook has an optional touchscreen, 500GB hard drive, SSD options for the drop prone, as well as lone USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports. If you're a truly mobile warrior, there's even an HSPA+ upgrade available for the wireless card. Basically its the Toughbook 19 we've all grown to know and love, but with some nice Intel upgrades on the inside. The updated rugged lappy should start shipping in Europe this July, but we're still waiting on availability info for the US.

Intel's Ivy Bridge processors are invading the rugged notebooks as well. After Durabook unveils its Ivy Bridge-equipped U12Ci, it is now Panasonic's turn to beef up its Toughbook line with the latest and fastest among Intel's processors.
The Panasonic CF-19 convertible notebook features a 3.3GHz Core i5 processor, a 10.1-inch screen (which you can opt as a touchscreen upon purchase), 500GB hard drive (with SSD options), a and some USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports. There is even an HSPA+ upgrade available. And since this is ruggedly made, expect this device to withstand the harshest of elements and “accidental” drops.
It basically appears like the Toughbook 19 but with a bunch of Intel upgrades on the inside. The rugged laptop will start shipping in Europe this July with an MSRP of 2,950 euros (about US$3,727). No word yet on Stateside availability.
